Cuba Libre
Philadelphia, PA
"Remember the scene in the classic Broadway musical 'Guys and Dolls' when the rakish gambler, Sky Mastersom, in order to win a bet, sweeps innocent Sarah Brown of the Salvation Army off to Cuba? He takes her to a swank Havana restaurant... If that restaurant could come to life beyond the Broadway stage, it would no doubt look a lot like Cuba Libre, the popular dining spot on Second Street between Market and Chestnut. The goal was to recreate post-revolutionary Cuba, and the designers - local architect PZ Architects, along with the Baltimore firm Dynamic Imagineering, and local lighting designer Jessie Garderer - have succeeded so well that it seems the project was blessed from beyond by Papa Hemingway himself."
